The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), as a Pathfinder Country under Alliance 8.7, has committed to accelerating the elimination of child labour in line with SDG 8.7, supported by a national Strategic Roadmap (2023–2030) and the integration of the Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) into its national strategy to address child labour in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).
Our strategic pillars
- Government Capacity and System Strengthening by building institutional capacity to monitor and remediate child labour through the CLMRS, coordinated by CISTEMA, powered by digital tools and a centralized national data platform.
- Public-Private cooperation for Responsible Supply Chains between downstream actors and local stakeholders to align remediation efforts with responsible sourcing practices across the mineral supply chain.
- Coordinated Stakeholder Action to Address Root Causes by convening government, civil society, and private sector partners to implement integrated prevention and remediation strategies that address the socio-economic drivers of child labour.
- Policy Alignment and Strategic Integration. The CLMRS is embedded within the Strategic Sectoral National Plan (2017–2030), ensuring that child labour elimination is guided by national priorities and aligned with international frameworks like Alliance 8.7.
The working group is currently financed by the French Ministry of Labour under the project Entr’alliance, as well as the EU-funded project CLEAR supply chains.
